Where Life Grows | The Pig Days

There are days that feel a little more like childhood than others.
This was one of them.

Audrey and Elena spent the day with their Stockman’s Club project pigs, Cookie and Indy, and if you’ve never watched pigs get the zoomies, you’re missing out. It’s equal parts chaos and comedy, and I couldn’t help but laugh behind the camera as the girls ran alongside them, trying to keep up.

But beneath the laughter, there’s something more.
There’s responsibility. There’s care. There’s learning happening in real time.
From giving baths to simply spending time with them, you can see how much these girls are already investing in something bigger than themselves. It’s not just about preparing for the fair in August , it’s about showing up every day, building trust, and learning what it means to care for an animal that depends on you.
One of the moments that stuck with me most was watching the pigs step onto grass for the first time.
So unsure. So hesitant.
They’ve only known concrete, and you could see the pause. That moment of uncertainty before deciding it was okay. And then, just like that, they figured it out.
And when it came to the mud or water… well, they didn’t need any instruction there.

Some instincts don’t need to be taught.
That’s the beauty of these days. They’re not planned or posed. They’re full of small, ordinary moments that quietly shape who these girls are becoming.
And for me, this is exactly what Where Life Grows is about.
Not perfection. Not portraits.

But the in-between. The laughter, the learning, the uncertainty, and the joy, all unfolding in real time.
This is just the beginning of their journey with Cookie and Indy, and I’m already looking forward to seeing where it leads by the time the fair rolls around in August.
